A federal judge in San Jose on Friday reduced the $1.05 billion in damages a jury awarded Apple in its patent fight against Samsung Electronics.
U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh ruled that the jury had improperly calculated damages from 14 Samsung products, and she reduced the award by $450 million.
The case focused on Apple's claims that Samsung devices infringed patents related to the iPhone.
A new trial will be held to redetermine the damages on those products, which include the Galaxy Prevail, Gem, Galaxy S II, Galaxy Captivate, Droid Charge, Epic 4G, Galaxy Tab and the Nexus S 4G.
The case is one of several court battles Apple and Samsung have been fighting worldwide over conflicting patent claims.
