Video Game Sales Down 16 Percent in May

Sales of video games dropped to $3335.2 million, or 16 percent, according to the research firm NPD Group.

Sales of game consoles and peripherals were also down sharply, falling 23 percent to $261.2 million.

But those figures do not account for newly expanding areas of the gaming industry.

Games sales for mobile devices and on social networks are exploding, offering new challenges for traditional game makers.
