Identified.com Brings Gaming to Career Management

Identified.com is developing ways to apply social and game design to how people plan and track their careers.

The San Francisco startup scored big this week, announcing Tuesday it raised $21 million in a second round of funding for its operations.

The financing was led by VantagePoint Capital Partners and Capricorn Investment Group. Also joining the round were previous investors including Tim Draper, Bill Draper and Innovation Endeavors.

Identified raised $1.5 million in its first funding round.

The company, which was founded in 2010 and went public in September of last year, now boasts 10 million registered users—90 percent of them under 29.

"We're redefining professional identity online for a generation of people who have grown up using Facebook, social media and playing games online," said Brendan Wallace, co-founder and co-CEO of Identified.

The company said existing job boards and professional networking experiences are dull for these young people.

And it is applying the principles of game design to make career management fun and engaging.

Identified said it will use the new funding to expand its staff, adding game designers and data scientists.
